Our Quad Learning Investment

Quad LearningEarlier this year we announced our investment in Quad Learning an education-focused company based in Washington, DC. Founded by Phil Bronner, a highly regarded venture capitalist and former partner at Novak Biddle and Chris Romer, a recognized expert in higher education and a former Colorado state senator, Quad Learning is focused on providing a creative alternative to the high cost of obtaining a 4-year college degree.

Quad Learning has created American Honors, a 2-year honors program for community college and junior college students. Leveraging an online learning platform and intense advising, students obtain the requisite skills to transfer to a multitude of academic partner institutions offering top-notch 4-year degrees. Phil and Chris, working on their first startup together, have assembled a rock star management team and a phenomenal advisory board. When you put that together with an idea to solve a big “real world” problem, you get potential for major success.

Our investment in Quad Learning represented Comcast Ventures’ first foray into the education sector and was the Catalyst Fund’s first investment of 2013. Through the Catalyst Fund we are assembling a group of high potential companies and diverse founders that will significantly change the status quo tech entrepreneurship. I am excited to take this ride with Phil and his team. For those of you with older children, I encourage you to take a serious look at the American Honors experience as an option for your future college students to expand their dreams, not their debt.
